West Meets East On Superbowl Sunday!
You are probably thinking that this is another one of those Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers preview/review blogs. I’m here to tell you that this post is far from it! This Blog is about another popular favourite activity on SuperBowl Sunday – snacking junk food!
Pizza franchises everywhere claim the SuperBowl as their busiest day. Many people abandon the ways of a proper meal as football fanatics bond over pizza, wings, ribs and chips. My personal favourite snack is the chip. So as I went out to shop for some groceries today, guess what I saw…?
I was on the prowl for some sour cream and onion chips or perhaps dill pickle, when out of the corner of my eyes, I saw WASABI CHIPS! Imagine my surprise that the local No Frills grocery store would carry such a flavour. I was more shocked that it was packaged by Lays!
I quickly grabbed the bag and looked for more like it. Seems like I got the last one! I was able to give up the visual search when I saw Lay’s CURRY CHIPS! This made my day! Wasabi and curry chips are not unfamiliar flavours to me, and are often find in the snack isles of many Chinese grocery stores. These flavours are usually done by Asian brands and almost always in very small portions. To see a big western company like Lay’s dip into Asian-preferred flavours and delivering it in huge portions is a wonderful treat! Here are the pictures of the packaging!

What about the taste? The wasabi chips were quite mild. You wouldn’t taste much wasabi with every single chip. However, if you had a mouthful, that’s when the wasabi after taste catches up to you! The curry chips I had were plain bitter, didn’t have the fragrance of curry that I expected. Oh well, hope they get it right next time!
