The appetizers to start. Lamb ribs, crab cakes.. Prosciutto air cured for 24 months.. The cheese were so good! The calamaris were grilled perfectly, best example I've had ever. The lamb had no hint of smell, was like butter off the bone and the sauce was great! Jen is a big fan of Chef Massimo. She was the inspiration for this meal because she missed her Mistura reservation last Winterlicious.. No regrets!
I was really happy to have thought about asking for the tasting menu. Chef Massimo came out, shook our hands, and said, "Don't worry, put the menus away.. I'll take you through it tonight." The crab cakes were a bit dry... but the sauce was excellent The anti-pesto course.
A Mistura creation.. Beet Risotto. Every bit as appetizing as it looks.. I could eat this for days! Wild Boar Ravioli with sun dried cherries. A very well thought out composition. The offering was complete in my books Asparagus Ravioli with cream sauce
Look at the size of those tasting menu portions.. simply huge! Jen couldn't finish a bit of the 10 courses we had... I was too happy to help. We made sure we had room for dessert too! I finally had Kobe Beef.. every bit as tender as I had imagined and more! Truly worth it. Grilled prawns were perfect. You gotta have grilled seafood at Mistura. They really know their stuff.. I was impressed already with the calamari appertizer.. this prawn pushed me over the edge.
How did they make the potatos to look like fish sticks? Mistura serves contemporary Italian, but the dessert tasting menu was decidedly French! The creme brulee was velvety smooth and vividly creamy. Best I've had.. and Jen says she makes it that way herself too. Hmm.... Chocolate Molten Cake... I might not be right about the name, but all I remember was that it was warm, oozing with chocolate, bouncy and smooth.. and oh so delicious!
Black Currant / Chocolate Crepe. The perfect combination of bittersweet. The chocolate reminded of Nutella. Joanne would have loved this, as she's a Black Currant fan. After all that, it was only $330 (including tips) for the 2 of us. Well worth it, right Jen?

Description: I was inspired by Jennifer to check out Mistura. So I brought her along. It was my goal to surprise Jen by helping her meet and shake Chef Massimo's (of Food TV's "Restaurant Makeover" fame) hand. We also asked for, and received his fantastic tasting menu!
Location: Mistura Restaurant, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
