HK cafe in Causeway bay.. lots of portugese / macau influenced dishes here. Chicken cutlet sandwich Salted fish, diced chicken fried rice. A favorite of mine anywhere.
Mixed vegetables stir fryed with salty sausages. Hui Lau Shan.. a dessert franchise.. we stopped over for a deserved break The first night, Tinna took me to a famous restaurant. They raised their own birds and animals.. they even served peacock! I didn't want to chance contracting the bird flu, so no pictures of the live birds in the big cage.
Tau Fu Fa... served in a delightful little barrel. A great first intro to HK food Crispy Chicken... we also had the soya chicken. No pictures. Most people would not eat with this presentation. I'm fine looking, but I won't touch the part where the head was connected. A-Veg stir fried with salty bean paste. A little more spicy and it would be the Malaysian dish called Kang Kong.
Itame Sushi. Always a lineup to get in. We went to the Mong Kog branch. There are 9 locations all over HK. Abalone Sushi.. never seen it.. didn't have it. Wish I did! But it's damn expensive Some normal sushi here.. exceptions might be the Japanese Flounder and the Mantis Shrimp (aka Peeing Shrimp). I've never had Rudderfish or Whelk either.

Just like in Japane... the focus is more on what part.. or what cut of meat.. for example. Squid Ar
Finally, ginger that is not pink! Here's how to properly eat sushi.. No wasabi... just soya sauce.. and fish side deep. Fish side first contact with tongue. Why no wasabi? Well made sushi should already have enough wasabi in it.
Some design ideas for my future restaurant (dream)
Have you ever had / seen Foie Gras sushi? Now you have!
Jumbo Scallops and crab meat. Flesh of crab stick sushi... generous portions, fresh, and you gotta try it! Jumbo Scallop.. cut differently than most others I've had.
A close-up of the Foie-Gras sushi Our additional order First Dorsal, lighlty roasted with a blow torch to draw out the flavour. Much better roasted than the usual raw
Fatty Salmon Sushi lightly roasted with a blow torch to bring out flavour.. melted in my mouth. Ebi Miso Sweet Shrimp. Very fresh! Close-up
This was a fish I never had...Japanese Flounder... it's the dorsal of the fish. It's texture is like Salmon.. but a little more bland / bitter. Closeup Hee Kee introduces itself on its tablemat. It bills itself as "The Celebrity Restaurant
Pictures of their signature dishes on Hee Kee's tablemat. Full view of Hee Kee's tablemat In the west, they would cook oysters in a marinara sauce. This is the Chinese way to do it, with some see-through vermecelli, scallions and stewed to perfection with a great broth. The broth was peppery and added to the tasting.
The oysters were so damned fresh. This was a best for me in the category of oysters. Spinach cooked with salted and normal eggs. They do every dish in a broth that was simply awesome. I've never had this dish done this way here. Crab smothered in spices.. their signature dish. It was so full of flavour.. and there were lots of meat too!
You had to break open the shell of course.. but in some parts.. the shells were cooked to such a tender part that you wouldn't mind eating the shell too! Tinna tells me that this dish is considered a local delicacy.. the entire street were restaurants that advertise this dish. Mmmmmm.... look at the giant piece of crab claw meat.
Great looking basins for patrons to wash out after a flavorful battle with the crab shells The roof of both washrooms was a see through glass to the aquarium above.. unique! Take a look at all the celebrities that frequent here for midnight snack... Hee Kee calls it self "The Celebrity Restaurant"
You must try dim sum when in HK.. even the ones at the airport taste better than anything served here in Canada! Har gow (aka shrimp dumplings) Bean curd wrap (Fu Zhuk)
It looks like porridge but this was turnip cake I always love me some squid @ dim sum.. these were delightful!
