I Was Blind, But Now I See!
September 21 2005, 8:07pm
Last night was probably one of the earliest nights I’ve gone to bed. I had problems with my eyes after wearing my contact lenses during the day. There were signs that I should not have put on the contacts, my eyes were feeling tired when I woke up, and putting on the contacts did not feel comfortable. As the day progressed, I actually lost my right eye’s contact lens. had to tough out the day viewing obscured images that were clear from my left eye, but blurred by my right eye. It was a dizzying experience! When I came home, my left eye got worse. Driving on the road became unbearable. My eyes were on full dilation and the intense light irritated my optic nerves. I could not even stand the lights in the house. Eye drops did not help, and the only comfort I experienced was when I closed my eyes. Unable to do anything, I was forced to go to bed early - before 10pm. When I woke up, my eye was glued shut because of mucus, interesting start! My left eye felt swollen and tender, and I was still not able to adjust myself to normal lighting conditions. I decided that this day would be a write off as well. I rested a little bit, before musturing the courage to drive to my optometrist for aid.
The car drive to the optometrist was harrowing to say the least. Have you ever had a sever migraine that felt like it was pulling your brain apart from the inside? That’s how it felt to me, as my optic nerves were bombarded with the intense daylight. It was a clear day! I never thought I would not want to see such a sunny day. When I reached the optometrist, he told me that it was due to the fact that I was wearing very old contacts. These ones that I were wearing were probably 3 to 4 years old! I was told by the doctor (are optometrists considered doctors?) to start using disposables, and given trial lenses. I was also given eye drops which did help my condition, By late afternoon, I was able to see fairly well, and able to cope with daylight. My left eye is still feeling swollen and tender. I should take better care of my eyes, and will be more “watchful” of what I do to them.
