I love BBQs! I have never been to a baby shower, but did I mention I loved BBQs. It was a great day for a bunch of us fellow Waterloo alumni to gather and congratulate Steve and Katherine on their new baby due in August! I also had fun in the morning while shopping for shower gifts at Toys R’Us, haven’t been THERE for a while!
There were friends from both Steve and Katherine’s circle, but I couldn’t help noticing a lot more Waterloo alums, and we were more lively too! It’s funny but with so many Waterloo alums, not one of us has yet donated back to the University. Speaks volumes about how much we feel about the tution fees back then. But everyone of us have stories about being distrubed during dinner by donation solicitations.
As you see, Katherine’s pretty big already. Steve’s family is very religious so we did not do anything too wild, but the ice was broken by playing 3 games. The first was to guess what food items were used to create stains in diapers. I forgot to take pictures of those but some were pretty realistic! Then, they tried to guess what the names of the new girl will be. The choice were Amber and Evelyn. Evelyn sounded too old, but Amber did not go well with the family name, Chao. I vote for Amber, but seems like there’ll have to be another decision. Then they had an “obstacle” relay where teams of 4 had to drink milk, feed baby food, and dress diapers. Look at the pictures!

It was great to see the usual people: Steve, Katherine, Paul Chi, Paul Wu, David, Jimmy, Tina, Annie/Ming, William/Diana, Jonathan, Chris/Angel, and of course the usual tomfollery from the 3 musketeers (Jason, Wesley and Xiao Di). I also enjoyed meeting up again with old friends that I have not met in a while: Andy Chiu/Cybil, Ken Keng and his wife. Plus, it was a treat to get to know a few new faces like Jackson and Jason Chan.
Speaking about Jason Chan, I left him at the end of the last paragraph on purpose. Besides being Tina’s boyfriend (good job on the name Chan, you don’t have to change your name when you 2 get married!), Jason is also the first person who besides having the same last name as me, also has the same Chinese character in his first name as I do! The law of averages finally worked out! I’m not alone but now, I’m also not unique!
P.S: Michael Jackson showed up at the BBQ and I took a picture of him! Can you spot him? Hahaha!
